Does My Business Need to Register With the ICO?

ICO register

Every sole trader, charity, business and organisation who process data may still be unaware they need to pay a data protection fee and be registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) unless they are exempt.

This was a result of the introduction of the Data Protection (Charges and Information) Regulations 2018 which came into force on 25 May 2018.

The fee for most applicants is £40 dependent upon the turnover and size of the organisation. To find out more information and how much you should pay, take a quick self - assessment here.

Whether you are a baby sitter, carer, cleaner, MD, CEO - if you collect names, addresses and keep them in your phone or spreadsheet this is classed as processing and storing data and it is highly likely you will need to pay the fee,

The ICO have already been issuing fines of uptown £4,350 to those who should be paying, so don’t get caught out take the self-assessment now!
